I'm not really sure what a photographer's responsibilities are,
but in class we just discussed the lines between reality, life, death and photography.
The reason why we were on that topic was because a man took a photograph of another man on subway tracks who was about to die. I'm not really sure what I think the responsibilities of a photographer are. Everyone has different beliefs about what their responsibilities are supposed to be.
I really only know my own responsibilities as a person. I know that if I can do something, that if I believe I can do something to help a person to live in a certain situation, then I will, to the best of my ability, help. In the case of the man on the train tracks, I'm sure that some things haven't been cleared up and I mean, what if the photographer had set up before the incident? And even though the photographer is getting a "bad rap", the thing about it is, that other people were also in proximity to the man on the tracks. Maybe they didn't see him, but there were more people nearby.
So, in summary of that last bit, the photographer himself shouldn't have to defend himself because of why he didn't save the person. Others should be asking why didn't anyone help him.
Well, that's my opinion anyways.
And I think that people should see the reality of situations.
If someone is going to die, why shouldn't people see it?
The responsibility of every photographer is different.
Their beliefs are what they will act on and not really on my opinion
anyways.
anyways.
